Uptown Charlotte runs bank ledgers and power grids. Both regulators ask the same thing first. Who had access?

Large banks keep headquarters and technology teams in Charlotte, and a major electric utility runs its corporate offices here. Bank examiners and NERC auditors use different rulebooks, yet their first request after an incident looks the same. Show the list of people and systems that could reach the affected assets.

in short·15-second read

For Charlotte banks, fintechs and utilities we build identity governance, privileged access and the data pipelines behind access reporting.

Banks get role models and certifications sized for tens of thousands of employees, plus runbooks that meet the 36-hour incident notice rule. Utilities get access management and evidence for NERC CIP. Cohash is headquartered in Frisco, Texas, serves Charlotte remotely and travels in for workshops and launches.

Cohash has no Charlotte office. We work from Frisco, Texas, run Charlotte engagements remotely and fly in for discovery workshops, audit prep sessions and cutover weekends.

who and what

Who we work with in Charlotte, and the rules they work under

industries
  1. Banks and their technology centers

Large banks run thousands of applications, many with their own entitlement models, and staff change roles constantly. Certifications turn into rubber stamps. We build role models from actual usage, cut the number of fine-grained approvals each manager sees, and connect the governance platform to the applications that still rely on spreadsheets.

  2. Fintechs and payment firms

Young firms that partner with Charlotte banks inherit their partners' due-diligence questionnaires overnight. We set up workforce SSO and MFA, privileged access for production, and clean API credential handling, so the answers to a bank's third-party risk review are true and backed by logs.

  3. Electric utilities

NERC CIP asks utilities to authorize access to bulk electric system cyber assets, revoke it quickly at termination and require MFA for interactive remote access. We map those requirements to the identity and PAM stack and generate the evidence auditors sample, so compliance stops being a quarterly scramble.

  4. Hospital networks

Regional health systems in the Carolinas share clinicians, contractors and students across many facilities. We set up lifecycle rules from HR and credentialing, badge-tap sign-in for shared workstations, and access reports a privacy office can use after a suspected snooping case.

regulations
  1. North Carolina breach notification, N.C.G.S. §75-65 ↗

Businesses notify affected residents without unreasonable delay and must also notify the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division whenever they send resident notices. A firm holding data it does not own must tell the owner immediately. Notices to more than 1,000 people go to the credit bureaus as well.

  2. Bank computer-security incident notification, 12 CFR Part 53 ↗

Banks notify their primary federal regulator within 36 hours of determining that a notification incident occurred. The OCC version is Part 53, with matching Federal Reserve and FDIC rules. Bank service providers must alert affected banks when an incident disrupts covered services for four hours or more.

  3. NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection standards ↗

CIP-004 covers authorizing access and removing it after terminations, and CIP-005 requires multi-factor authentication for interactive remote access into protected electronic security perimeters. These apply to registered entities with bulk electric system assets.

01Our access certifications cover hundreds of thousands of entitlements. Can that be cut down safely?

Usually by a lot. Birthright access granted by role can be certified once at the role level instead of person by person, and dormant entitlements can be revoked before the campaign. What's left is the access that actually needs a manager's judgment.

02Do North Carolina breach rules require telling the Attorney General even for a small incident?

The statute ties the Attorney General notice to resident notification. If you notify any affected North Carolina residents, you also notify the Consumer Protection Division, with no minimum count. Confirm specifics with counsel, since federal bank rules may apply alongside.

03Can one PAM platform cover both our corporate IT and our CIP environment?

Often, yes, if the CIP side is deployed so that its components meet CIP requirements themselves, such as running inside or alongside the electronic security perimeter. Some utilities keep a separate instance for the OT side. We work through the trade-offs with your compliance team before buying anything.

04Can you help a fintech pass a bank partner's security review?

Yes, on identity and access. We fix the gaps the questionnaire exposes, such as shared admin accounts or missing MFA on production, and then help you write answers that match what your logs will show.
